Western Australia Day 2025 - #WA Day
Monday 2nd June 2025
Western Australia Day is a public holiday in Western Australia, celebrated on the first Monday in June each year to commemorate the founding of the Swan River Colony in 1829.
The Foundation Day holiday in June has officially been renamed WA Day, under new laws which recognise Aboriginal people as the original inhabitants of the land.
Premier Colin Barnett said the name change, which had support from both sides of government, was more inclusive of all Western Australians and a better way to celebrate the state's achievements.
Foundation Day marked the day on June 1, 1829, when the first English settlers reached WA and established the Swan River Colony.
The public holiday is celebrated on the first Monday in June.
2024
Many WA Day events including the festival at Optus Stadium Precinct and Burswood Park were cancelled due to the heavy rainfall.
