Stirk Park - Kalamunda

Located in the heart of lovely leafy Kalamunda, Stirk Park is one of the most picturesque public spaces in the Perth metro area.

Large and slightly undulating, with plenty of big shady trees, it's a tranquil place despite being situated quite close to the bustling Kalamunda shopping area.

Playground

This playground and picturesque shady playspace is large and located in the centre of Kalamunda.

There is a gate which protects the playground from the road but not from the rest of the park, including little rocky creeks so constant supervision is required. The ground under play equipment is covered with either sand or softfall. Only some of the playground equipment has shade sails, but there are lots of trees which provide shade throughout the park although some play equipment is completely exposed to the sun.

Activities include:
Larger slide, merry go rounds and see-saws, swings.
Toddler play equipment.
Pond with lots of ducks and other bird-life (and lots of mosquitos in the afternoon - bring your insect spray!)
Liberty swing - for wheelchair bound children and their carer to experience a swing. For access contact the Shire of Kalamunda on 9257 9999 or 9257 9958.
The 'sound shell' is a bookable area used for many events.

Stirk Cottage

The historical Stirk Cottage, at the southern end of the park, is open to the public each Sunday afternoon 2pm to 4pm. Entry to Kalamunda's very first house is by gold coin donation.

Stirk Cottage was built in 1881 by Frederick and Elizabeth Stirk. They owned the large property, part of which later became Stirk Park. It's hard to believe that a family of eleven people lived in this teeny tiny three-roomed cottage!

The cottage was constructed using wattle, daub, jarrah saplings and mud. Inside, you can get an idea how life would have been like for the family over 130 years ago, with many artefacts throughout the cottage.

With its location right in the centre of Kalamunda town, it's easy to walk to Stirk Park after a trip to one of Kalamunda's many cafes. The History Village or weekend markets.
