Built in 1898 as a local working mans pub the character and clientele of The Brisbane remained largely unchanged until a lack-lustre renovation during the 1980s. Then in 2004 utilising the original framework of the hotel, The Brisbane underwent an impressive renovation blending old with new by adding strong architectural design elements.

Geoff Hayward is the owner of the hotel and one of Perths most highly regarded hospitality entrepreneurs, synonymous with establishing venues that promote excellence. Geoffs style is well recognised in Western Australia and the Brisbane Hotel team awarded nationally, winning New Hotel of the Year 2005 and Hotel of the Year 2006 and again in 2008.

The Brisbane Hotel is fresh and contemporary, whilst in keeping with the urban inner-city aesthetic and traditional Australian pub values. The architecture and laid-back interior design are striking and at ease, the impressive outdoor spaces typically West Australian. The seamless blend of casual and chic is typical of Geoff Haywards venues and although the surroundings are high-end, there is no pretension with the food or service.

The Brisbanes location on Beaufort Street is not unlike Brunswick or Fitzroy Streets in Melbourne in that it is the hub of city life. In an interesting twist, upstairs at the Brisbane has been established a Perth entertainment gem, Lazy Susans Comedy Den. Lazy Susans provides WA audiences with local, national and international comedy acts weekly.
