One of Fremantle, Perth and Australia's most famous (and loved) personalities, Bon Scott is best known as lead singer of Australian rock band AC/DC

The bands Bon sang with are well known Australian bands.. The Spektors, The Valentines and Fraternity before replacing Dave Evans as lead singer of AC/DC from 1974 until his accidental death in 1980.

Ronald Belford "Bon" Scott was born on 9 July 1946 in Scotland

The Scott family emigrated to Australia in 1952 to the Melbourne suburb of Sunshine. At Sunshine Primary School he was dubbed "Bon" (Bonnie Scotland). In 1956, the family moved to Fremantle, Western Australia, and Bon joined the associated Fremantle Scots Pipe Band, learning the drums.

Bon Scott died at the age of 33 on the 19th February 1980 in London, as a result of "acute alcohol poisoning". He was cremated and interred at Fremantle Cemetery in Western Australia.

The Valentines


The Valentines formed in Perth in mid-1966, bringing together members of three leading local beat groups: Scott and Milson were from The Spektors, Lovegrove, Ward and Cooksey from The Winztons, and Findlay from top WA band Ray Hoff & The Off Beats. Playing a mixture of soul, R&B and mod covers, by the start of 1967 they were already Perths top group. A major drawcard was the double-vocal attack of dynamic frontmen Bon Scott and Vince Lovegrove, and within a few weeks of their live debut they were packing in crowds

In a world exclusive, Australian Story unravels the legend of AC/DC front man Bon Scott, who was on the verge of becoming an international rock star when he died at age 33.

For the first time ever, the program has been granted access to Bon's family and friends who provide fresh insights into his vulnerabilities and state of mind leading up to his untimely death in London in 1980.

The program features the only ever interview with Bon's younger brother Derek Scott and is introduced by Brian Johnson, Bon's successor with AC/DC.

To this day, Bon Scott is considered one of the world's best rock and roll singers.
