Rag and Bone Theatre Company |
Rag & Bone Theatre operates in Perth, Western Australia, bringing new and fun theatrical works to our local audiences.
With a focus on local talent, Rag & Bone Theatre aims to mainly present new works by Australian playwrights.
Rag & Bone Theatre Group was started in 2010 by an enthusiastic group of theatre performers and technicians, who wanted to present Perth audiences with something new and different.
Our goal from the beginning was to provide the people of Perth with new works by local playwrights, with a view to opening the minds and hearts of Australians to the talent that exists in their own backyards, and to bring both traditional and non-traditional theatre to new audiences.
The name was invented after one of our number appeared in a local version of Christopher Frys The Ladys Not For Burning - the main character, Thomas Mendip, makes reference to the rag & bone man.
A rag & bone man was one of the earliest recyclers - he would collect peoples old stuff and recycle it - bones were turned into glue, rags were reworked into new clothes.
We figured that a startup theatre was very much like the rag & bone man - we reuse and recycle all the time!
Also, as a brand new theatre group, we were starting off with absolutely nothing, so our first productions would be performed with costumes and props that were begged, borrowed or recycled - rags & bones so to speak.
Youll find the Rag & Bone man proudly displayed in the middle of our logo, along with his faithful hound, his cart, and his shout of "ragaboa!"so prominently heard in the early days.
Its been an interesting journey so far, and one that we would love to have you share with us.
Whether you aspire to playwrighting, acting, or delving into the technical side of how a production is put together, wed love to hear from you.
Experienced people and complete amateurs welcome! All we ask is that you are prepared to give it a red hot go to create spectacular theatre!
