Our third generation WA owners, the Yukich Family, have realised a long-held dream by returning the heritage listed grounds and winery of Swan Location 11 (originally listed in 1829 and renamed Houghtons in 1836), back to WA hands.

Houghton was established in 1836 by three British Army officers (Thomas Yule, Ninian Lowis and Richmond Houghton), just four years after the fledgling colony of Western Australia was founded. It was one of Australia's oldest operating wineries. The Swan Valley site's colourful history includes tales of pioneer Scots, bandits, and generations of wine making craftsmanship.

THE RESTORATION OF THE HISTORIC EQUIPMENT ON DISPLAY IN THIS CELLAR UNDERLINES THE DEEP RESPECT AND AFFECTION IN WHICH TRADITIONAL WINEMAKING METHODS ARE HELD AT NIKOLA ESTATE.
